Howdy from The Hideaway Ranch – it's me, Rupert!

The two-legged crew at The Hideaway Ranch (my family) has been working like a team of ranch hands before a rainstorm. We’ve been building a brand-new website and rolling out a whole new reservation system to make your getaway smoother than a fresh jar of peanut butter. (Don’t get me started on peanut butter…)

The Hideaway Ranch Welcome Wagon

If there’s one job I was born for, it’s making folks feel at home the moment their tires crunch down our gravel driveway.

Howdy again, friends—it’s Rupert, your loyal greeter and ranch tail-wagger-in-chief!

I take a lot of pride in my work here at The Hideaway Ranch, but if there’s one job I was born for, it’s making folks feel at home the moment their tires crunch down our gravel driveway. You see, I am the Welcome Wagon. Four legs, one wagging tail, and zero hesitation.

You pull in? I’m there. You step out of the car? Boom—instant eye contact and a polite sniff.

I’ve developed a whole system based on body language and suitcase size. Couples on a romantic getaway? I lead ‘em straight to the porch swing. Families with kids? I sprint ahead and point out the best stick-fetching zones. Solo travelers? I give them the slow, wise nod—like, “Yes, you chose well.”

But the real magic happens when they least expect it. Like last week, I spotted a little girl in sparkly boots staring nervously at Rama Llama DingDong. I trotted over, gave her a nudge, and next thing you know, she’s feeding him a carrot like they’ve known each other since preschool. Pure ranch magic.

I’ve also perfected the subtle “stay for one more night” technique. It involves strategic porch lounging, soulful stares, and occasionally laying directly in front of the car door. Doesn’t work every time, but the success rate is solid.

So whether you're arriving, unpacking, or stargazing by the fire pit, know this: I see you. I welcome you. And I’ll probably sneak into your family photo if you give me half a second.

          Until our next meet-and-greet,

Ranch Relaxation, Rupert-Style

Some think you’ve gotta pack up and head to the coast or book some fancy hotel to unwind. But out here at The Hideaway Ranch? We do things a little differently.

Howdy-do, folks—it’s me, Rupert, your paw-sitively peaceful ranch host.

Let’s talk about relaxation. Some people think you’ve gotta pack up and head to the coast or book some fancy hotel to unwind. But out here at The Hideaway Ranch? We do things a little differently—and in my expert opinion (as a professional napper), we do it better.

Now, my daily schedule is full of Very Important Responsibilities: greeting guests, monitoring wildlife, occasionally barking at a suspicious leaf. But when the time comes to kick back, I go all in.

First stop? The front porch. That spot where the sun hits the wooden steps just right? That’s my morning meditation zone. I stretch out, ears flopped, tongue lolling, watching the breeze roll through the trees like it’s nature’s lullaby. If I’m lucky, someone from The Herd will wander by with a slow nod of respect. (Cows get it. They’re the original chillers.)

By afternoon, it’s hammock o’clock. I can’t technically get into a hammock—something about balance and four paws—but I love curling up underneath while the humans swing gently above. Birds chirpin’, breeze blowin’, maybe a far-off whinny from The Remuda. That’s the good stuff.

And at night? Stars for miles. I plop down by the fire pit and roast my belly in the leftover warmth while guests roast marshmallows. I don’t even want the s’mores—I'm just there for the vibe. (Okay, I want the s’mores. But I stay professional.)

So if you're feeling frazzled, frayed, or just plain fried, take a page from the Rupert playbook: breathe in, stretch out, and let the ranch do the rest. Peace and pawprints, baby.

          Wagging into the weekend,

Let me tell y’all about a day I like to call The Great Goat Getaway. It started like any other—sun shining, breeze blowing, me snoozin’ on the porch with one eye open (strictly for security reasons, of course). But then… mayhem.

A loud clang from the fence line, followed by some suspicious bleating. I knew right away—those troublemaking Groundskeepers were at it again. Yep, Billy the Kid, El Diablo, and Calamity Jane had busted loose, and they were headed straight for the garden like it was a buffet line at an all-you-can-eat hoedown.

Well, I sprang into action like the seasoned ranch dog I am. I zigzagged through the field, barking just enough to make ‘em reconsider their choices but not enough to panic the pigs. El Diablo tried to fake left and bolt right (classic), but I was on him like hay on a horse blanket. Meanwhile, Calamity Jane attempted a sneak attack on the hammock—why, I’ll never know.

It took a solid 20 minutes, a little strategic tail-wagging, and one perfectly timed head tilt, but I got those goats rounded back into their pen without so much as a scratch on a tomato plant. The humans were mighty impressed. I even scored a bonus belly rub and a cold splash in the horse trough.

No medals were handed out, but I’m pretty sure Rama Llama DingDong gave me a subtle nod of respect. That’s high praise from the Ranch Security Officer himself.

Until next time, keep your hooves clean and your fences tight.

          Pawsitively yours,
